Peninsula Math Circle

The Peninsula Math Circle runs weekly sessions to introduce middle and high school students to the beauty of mathematics by allowing them to engage with mathematical ideas and thinking beyond the standard math curriculum. Through the math circle, we hope students come to appreciate that mathematics is full of opportunities for exploration and discovery (and not a "dead topic" that is completely figured out).

The Peninsula Math Circle runs as a Teens program offered by the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Division. To sign-up, please visit the Burlingame Community Center front desk or register online using this link. Note: to complete the online registration, you will need to create an account on the Burlingame Parks and Recreation registration website.

Spring 2026

Description

Learn the beauty and art of problem-solving while exploring common math competition topics (e.g., geometry, algebra, number theory, combinatorics, logic problems, etc.). Classes will be a mixture of lectures and collaborative problem-solving. Homework includes opportunities for guided exploration and discovery-based learning. Students earn points towards prizes (e.g., books, gift cards) by completing homework.

Time: Saturdays from 2pm to 3:45pm
Dates: January 10, January 17, January 31, February 7, February 21, February 28, March 7, March 21, March 28, April 18
Prerequisites: curious and enthusiastic about math, familiarity with concepts from Algebra 1 and Geometry.
Fees: See class registration link. Need-based financial aid available (contact Kevin Chu at kevin@velexi.com).
